Obituary of Carl O. Albrecht
Carl O. Albrecht, age 82, of Upper Providence, Media, PA, a retired helicopter structures engineer, died on August 25, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he graduated from John Bartram High School in 1949. He lived in Upper Providence since 1962. A graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, received his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1954 and MS in Aeronautical Engineering in 1957.
He spent most of his career at Boeing-Helicopters Division in Ridley Park, PA, as Chief of Structures Technology. He participated in virtually all of the aircraft designed at Piasecki Helicopters, Vertol, Vertol-Division of Boeing, Boeing Defense and Space Group and Boeing-Philadelphia. These helicopters included the HUP, H-21, H-16, Heavy Lift, X-76 (Tilt Rotor), V-44, 107 Prototype, CH-46, CH-47, V-22 (Osprey) and RAH-66 (Comanche).
After his retirement from Boeing, he served as a Consultant to both Piasecki Aircraft and Boeing and served as a Docent at the American Helicopter Museum and Educational Center.
He served on a NASA ARTS Committee, Rotorcraft Airworthiness Group, American Helicopter Society (AHS) Structures & Materials Committee, AHS Technical Council and was Session Chairman for numerous meetings.
He presented 15 technical papers, some overseas in France, England and China, and traveled the world investigating helicopter accidents.
He was an active member at Spruce Street Baptist Church in Newtown Square, PA, where he served as treasurer for many years.
He was the son of the late Erwin Albrecht and the late Julia (Schmid) Albrecht. He will be joining his wife of 58 years, the late Florence M. Mulford Albrecht, and will be sorely missed by his adoring family. Survivors: Children: Jeanne A. Brown (William), Susan E. Curcio (Joseph), Steven E. Albrecht (Jeanne), Carole L. Mullen and Julie L. Cohen (Nicholas); Grandchildren: Heather, Kyle, Christopher, Tara, Kari, Noah, Isabella, Madeleine and Ross.
Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers, may be given in memory of Carl Albrecht to the American Helicopter Museum and Educational Center, 1220 American Boulevard, Brandywine Airport, West Chester, PA 19380.
