Obituary of Maurice P. Mayrides
Maurice P. "Moe" Mayrides, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Residence @ Glen Riddle, Media, PA. Mr. Mayrides was born in 1921, and grew up in Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Liberty High School, Bethlehem, PA, where he was a member of the wrestling team.
Mr. Mayrides was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He was a 1946 graduate of Moravian College, on the GI Bill. He earned a Degree in Business Admin., Finance, English and Spanish.
Mr. Mayrides worked as a welder in Bethlehem Steel, and then for General Electric. He began working at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1950. Most of his career was with the US Army Signal Corps on Rittenhouse Square, as Budget/Finance Chief. He spent 4 years in Germany helping to consolidate WWII Army Materiel in Europe. After his retirement, Mr. Mayrides taught Spanish and English at the middle school level.
Mr. Mayrides coached Basketball for 12 years at Holy Spirit in Sharon Hill, PA, 2 years in Zweibrucken, Germany, and 2 years in Media, PA. He served as a Community Volunteer at Elwyn Institute, President of the Father's Club at Msgr. Bonner High School 1959/1960, and as Abel Place Homeowner's Assoc. Administrator.
Mr. Mayrides spoke fluent Greek and Spanish, and was fortunate to vacation with his family in Hawaii, The Greek Isles, most of Europe, Guatemala and some countries in South America.
Mr. Mayrides was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Mayrides in 2010.
