Obituary of Donald J. Dodds

Donald J. “Donny” Dodds, age 62, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Chester, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022.  Donny was born in Chester, PA, to the late Donald and Patricia (Fromholzer) Dodds. He attended St. Robert’s Catholic Grade School, St. Joseph’s Prep and went on to graduate from St. James High School, Class of 1978.

Donny was well known for his prowess on the basketball court. He went on to play Division I basketball at both Temple University and the University of Hawaii. Donny also coached for St. Robert’s CYO, Archbishop Prendergast High School, Chester Community Charter Middle School and Chester Charter School of the Arts High School.

Donny is a member of the Delaware County Sports Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and the St. James Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to his passion for basketball, he enjoyed playing golf and taking vacations to the beach. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Children:  Danielle McGrory (Timothy), Kathryn Dodds, and Erin Dodds

Step-Son: Craig Cowieson (Jaime)

Grandchildren: Cameron McGrory and Emma Cowieson

Brother: Keith Dodds

Sister: Victoria Thompson

Also survived by beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. 

Visitation: Wednesday, December 7^th, from 5:00-8:00PM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063, and Thursday, December 8^th after 10:00AM at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel (St. Robert’s), 1920 Providence Ave., Chester, PA 19013.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, December 8^th at 11:00AM at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel (St. Robert’s).

Interment: Private.
