Condolences
Very sorry to learn of Marilyn's recent death. Hope she didn't suffer
near the end and had recordings of her favorite opera singers to
comfort her. She was as devoted to the teaching of pharmacology to
Penn medical students as she was to getting in her car on Saturdays
and speeding up to the Metropolitan Opera. Rental Tebaldi, who,
she told me, once invited her to lunch after learning of her devotion,
was her idol. At the med school, she was known to a lot of younger
people as Aunt Marilyn. There were many facets to her personality
and she'll be remembered for all of them.
Dr. Hess was a wonderful person. Her energy was boundless. Seeing her nodding in the Med Pharm lecture assured me I was teaching the right stuff.
I don't think I ever saw her without her white coat and smile.
Dr. Hess will truly be missed. Dr. Hess was one of the first people that I had conversations with when I came to Pharmacology. I was in early and so was she and we used to talk. Dr. Hess was a warm person filled with knowledge of life. Her presence was always welcomed.
She fought the fight, and she won.
Peace & Blessings
Marilyn will be deeply missed. When I arrived at Penn in 1994, she was the first visitor to my office and wanted to take me to lunch. From that point onward, she dropped by routinely to ask how things were going - not just at work - but how my husband and children were doing. She always cared. She taught me a great deal about teaching, for which I will be forever grateful. Marilyn was the rock of the department for many years, and will be impossible to replace.
She was a very special person!
Kevin Bill and I are very sadden by Marilyn's passing she was a wonderful person. Her insight and personality will be missed. Our memories of her staying with us will last forever. We send our condolences to you and every one whose life she touched .
