Obituary of Walter M. Wood, Jr.
Walter M. Wood, Jr., 94, of Glen Mills died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. Walter was born November 7, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA. He was a graduate of Haverford High School and attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School for 2 years and also numerous Appraiser and Real Estate Institutes.
Walter was employed in the family business Walter M. Wood, Jr. Inc. Realtor-Appraiser that was started in 1938 by his father Walter M. Wood, Sr. He was a renowned Real Estate Appraiser in Philadelphia and Delaware County who was proficient in all areas of real estate appraisals including residential, commercial, industrial and special-use properties. Walter was a lead appraiser for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the Blue Route Construction Project. Mr. Wood was an Instructor at various Appraiser and Real Estate Institutes and also at Penn State University. He also was a certified expert witness in Real Estate Appraisal matters in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of Delaware. Mr. Wood's clients included the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Housing Authority, Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Veterans Administration and various banks, savings associations and mortgage companies. He was a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, the Philadelphia Board of Realtors where he served as the former President of West Chapter and The Association of Delaware County Real Estate Appraisers where he served as a former President. He also was a member of the National Association of Realtors, Pennsylvania Board of Realtors, American Association of Certified Appraisers and the National Association of Review Appraisers.
Walter was a member since 1942 of Llanerch Country Club that was his second home for many years. He was an avid golfer, bridge and pinochle player
