Obituary of Claire C. Longhurst
Claire (Cullis) Longhurst, age 99, of Holland, PA, formerly of Aston Twp., PA, died peacefully with her family by her side in the Fair Acres Geriatric Center, Lima, PA on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Claire’s life began in Chester, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Chester High School in 1944. She dedicated herself to community service as a charter member of the Aston Township Lionesses. Additionally, she was a dedicated 50+ year active member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, actively participating in Sunday School, the nursery, and the woman’s group. Claire also found joy in camping with the Web-Footers group and was actively involved in the reunion committee that honored those who served on Landing Craft Support (Large) ships during World War II, including her husband of 71 years who served on LCS(L)-61.
However, her most cherished role was that of a devoted wife and mother.
Claire was the daughter of the late William K. and Ella S. (Crockett) Cullis. She was the wife of the late Walter Longhurst, Jr., and the mother of the late James D. Longhurst, Sr. Claire was also the grandmother of the late Daniel Pierce and the sister of the late Eloise Curtis.
In addition to her family, Claire is survived by many friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Children: Richard (Karen Statter) Longhurst, Linda Longhurst Hurt, Mary Lou Longhurst, Jane (Don) MacNeill, Nancy (Mark) Pierce, and Robert (Samantha) Longhurst.
She was also adored by her 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, January 20th from 10:00-11:15AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.
Funeral Service: Monday, January 20th at 11:30AM at the funeral home.
Aston Township Lioness Service will be held at 11:20AM
Interment: Chester Rural Cemetery.
