Obituary of John A. McGovern, Jr.
John A. McGovern, Jr., "Jack", age 87, short term resident of Aston, longtime resident of Upper Chichester, died October 16, 2024 surrounded by his family. Jack was born on January 3, 1937, and raised in the Garden City section of Wallingford, graduating from Saint James High School. Jack was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, where he served 8 years and was awarded the Outstanding Unit Award and Good Conduct Medal. Early in his career, Jack worked for FMC as a storeroom manager. Later in his career, Jack joined the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board where he managed several Fine Wine & Good Spirits liquor stores in the area, finally retiring from the Aston store. Jack was a long time parishioner of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Boothwyn. Jack cherished his family, especially his wife, spending time with them at his home, especially around the pool. He also enjoyed bringing joy to others with his full of life attitude, great smile, a small gift, or a silly joke.
He was the son of the late John Anthony McGovern and Catherine Emily Marie Keily McGovern.
Survivors: Cherished Wife of 64 years, Ellen Gorman McGovern, children; Ellen James (Frank) John McGovern,III (Beth), Sue Gray (Jim), Daniel McGovern (Deanna); 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, Sisters; Carol Ann Close, Nancy Gillis, Betty Ann Welkie.
