Obituary of Martin E. Grossman
Martin Edward “Marty” Grossman of Villanova, PA, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on June 19, 2024, after a wonderful Father’s Day weekend spent with his family. Born on March 22, 1944, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Shirley Siez Grossman. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Terri Grossman (née Van Horn), beloved sons and daughters-in-law Andrew and Karen Grossman, Christopher “Topher” and Cathleen Grossman, granddaughters Sadie and Lena Grossman, grandson William Grossman, and golden retriever Wilma Grossman. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Janis Van Horn Hunsinger (Clark), brother-in-law George Van Horn (Lori) as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Arnold Grossman (Beryl) and his five other golden retrievers: Arfer, Maizie, Maggie, Lily, and Clara Grossman.
Marty was a graduate of Lower Merion High School (1962), Villanova University (1966), and Villanova Law School (1969).
On May 24, 1975, Marty was united in marriage to the love of his life, Terri Van Horn of Yardley, PA at Morrisville Presbyterian Church. They shared many wonderful years together raising their two sons and enjoying their beloved grandchildren and golden retrievers.
On the career front, Marty didn’t have just one that defined him. He worked both as an attorney in private practice and an entrepreneur, owning two successful businesses: the first, Travelogue Inc., a Travel Agency specializing in business travel; and, the second, American Patch & Emblem Co., an import business that specialized in custom embroidered patches. Both afforded him the ability to enjoy life and do what he loved, notably traveling with family and friends, reading, and flying —so much that he acquired his Private Pilot’s license in 2008.
Marty was a loyal, kind, and caring friend. If there was one accolade he truly earned, it would be the “Good Neighbor” award. He was affectionately known to all neighbors as the “Mayor of Green Brier,” always there to lend a hand or ensure the safety of his neighborhood. It should also be noted that he had an unlimited repertoire of jokes!
Marty’s biggest passion was found in being a father and a grandfather. “Dad” and “Pop” were his proudest titles. He loved nothing more than watching his sons’ and grandchildren’s athletics and performances, cheering on the sidelines for them and their teams. This is his greatest legacy.
A Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held at Haverford Friends Meeting House on Friday, August 9 at 4:00 PM. 855 Buck Lane, Haverford, PA 19041. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at the following:
