Aunt Barbara, Amy, Sharon, and Jon Jon,
We were deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Matthew's passing. Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Uncle Matthew was a truly warm and kind-hearted person, always with a smile on his face.
We have so many fond memories of him, but one that stands out is our first trip to New York City as children. Uncle Matthew took us all over Manhattan, showing us the sights, and then we spent the night at his house playing video games with our cousins. It was an unforgettable experience.
Uncle Matthew's kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
With love and deepest condolences,
Arthur and Michael
It is with a heavy heart that I share this post in loving memory of Mathew Chao Ping Chang. Matthew was one of the best leaders I have worked with in all my experiences across multiple countries including China, Poland, Japan and the US. This is a sentiment shared by numerous colleagues at New York Institute Technology-- Department Chair, Ph.D. Program Director, and distinguished scientist Michael Hadjiargyrou, Ph.D. shared with me, “I am extremely sorry to hear about Ben…. I feel the same way. Matthew was such a good and kind human being. I miss him as well”. Dr. Chang’s legacy of wisdom, kindness, and guidance will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. As a mentor, Dr. Chang possessed an unparalleled ability to inspire and empower others, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Whether through words of encouragement, profound insights, or steadfast support, he selflessly dedicated himself to nurturing the growth and success of those under their tutelage.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Chang will be remembered for the warmth of his character and the sincerity of his friendship. His door was always open, offering not just advice but also a listening ear and unwavering encouragement. Dr. Chang’s passion for life, coupled with his boundless generosity, touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come. While we mourn the loss of a beloved mentor, we also celebrate a life richly lived and the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In the hearts of the faculty, staff, and studies of the NYIT Ark fellowship, Dr. Chang has fought the good fight. He has finished the course, and he has kept the faith-- henceforth there is laid upon him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, had given to him. The Lord has brought Dr. Chang safely to the heavenly kingdom of God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior forever and ever.

Hi, Barbara:
We are deeply sad about Mathew's passing. We had great memories of Mathew since our graduate school days in University of Massachusetts.
We will always treasure the time of our reunions in Amherst, Atlanta and Baltimore.
I know we will see him again in haven when we are called to join our merciful Lord in this beautiful and final resting place. We will sing the praises and reunite in His everlasting Love.
In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ,
Frank and Lily Chuang
We offer our deepest condolences to Dr. Chang’s family.
Dr. Chang was a colleague and friend to many of us at NYIT. He worked endlessly to improve the knowledge of students and his contributions to the field will touch countless families across the globe for decades to come. He provided attention to numerous students from domestic and international. He was always the first to arrive in campus everyday.
Dr. Chang was much more than a brilliant faculty and mentor; inspiring all of us, especially my family members with his commitment to students. We will forever remember his sense of courtesy, warmth, passion, boundless energy, and optimism.

When Boris, Henry, and I heard that our dear Uncle Matthew had passed away, we were all at a loss for words. Our hearts ache for our Auntie Barbara, cousins Amy, Sharon, and Jon Jon. His vivacious personality, full of cheer and light, along with his boisterous laugh, are what immediately come to mind when we think of our Uncle. We remember last speaking with him soon after his heart surgery, and despite his health struggles, he sounded just as we had remembered him in our early years. We have such fond memories of him and wish we got to spend more time together in our short time here on Earth. We are grateful for the times that we did get together, when he attended our wedding and our other cousin's wedding, as well as when Boris visited Taiwan with our parents, among other visits to our childhood home. We know how much our father Max admired and respected his brother, and we are forever grateful for all the loving support Uncle Matthew has provided our father and our family. Uncle Matthew, you will be missed forever and always. The beautiful moments you shared with us will always speak of the great person that you were. May you rest in peace. With all of our love, Boris, Doris, Henry, and Devin
With indescribable sadness my husband and I mourn the loss of Matthew. He was our beloved friend, school mate and Christian brother. The unforgettable laugh, contagious cheery personality, great kindness and generosity are not only etched into our hearts but is a model for us to love, admire and emulate. We met and knew him in Umass since 1965. Countless fond and happy memories floods back. Lookin back, it is such a blessing, gift, and cherished memory that we had yearly reunions together with other dear brothers and sisters from Umass from 2015 to 2019. After Barbara and Matthew moved to Pa and Matthew’s heath was in decline:, Barbara, my husband and I had made attempt numerous times and even set up date to visit him. but for one reason or another we never got our wish, a regret we will always carry with us. But our consolation is we will certainly see him again one day in our heavenly home, Rest in peace, our dear brother!
His smile; his laughter; his approach to life. I will always remember him as a positive man whose willingness to help and share never changed. RIP knowing you made a positive impact in this world ❤️
It was a blessing that I was able to know about the passing of Dr.Chang right away so that I can pay my respects to him. He was always smiling, laughing, and outgoing to our family. Most of all, I will always be grateful for his help and interventions in the past with my family. It was an awkward position but he was kind and caring to help me, and I will be forever grateful. My deepest apologies for not being able to be there for the funeral. Know that I thinking of all of you, my heart will be there with the family. Love and blessings to all of you. May he rest in peace.
With excruciating heartbreak, I, the youngest brother Max, still could not wrap around my head that our most beloved brother Matthew had left us!! As my role model with immense kindness and readily smile, Matthew would consistently make people around him feel comfortable and harmonious.
Following the footstep of our beloved Father also a distinguished academia professor over half a century, Matthew touched many lives by not only articulating their science concerns also inspiring them to make a better world with peace and harmony – just like the movement of celestial bodies right above us with ample shared space in total harmony.
His generosity of sharing rare wisdom knew no bounds, his infectious laughter and heartfelt kindness will forever echo in our hearts. His remarkable legacy will continue to inspire and guide generations to come. Though we may be apart, the bond we shared as siblings will forever live on.
May his soul find everlasting peace in the divine embrace, our most beloved Chao-Ping.
I met Matt almost 40 years ago on Long Island. We soon became very close friends particularly we had jointly devoted our efforts in a few unsuccessful businesses ventures outside our teaching jobs. He was such a pleasant guy to be with whenever we were together. Unfortunately we lost contact after Matthew and Barbara moved out of Long Island. Then I heard the shocking news oh his passing. Can't believe he was no longer with us. I only wished that I have done more reaching out to him when they moved away. And get to hear a few more hearty laughs only he could offer. Goodbye, my dear friend. Do rest in peace. George Cheng
