My first memory of Uncle Tom is that he had an infectious laugh (probably because he would tickle me till I couldn't breathe). He had such an artful eye, as evident in my Grandparent's basement with electric paintings of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine. I learned to keep an eye on the Vietnam War when Uncle Tom was drafted and was so happy when he came home. Uncle Tom gave me my first "grown-up" record albums: Elton John's Madman Across the Water, and Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan that I still love listening to. He gave me my first guitar - an Epiphone with a cracked neck that I begged him for. That sure toughened up my fingers!
I was so happy for him to meet Kathy - the love of his life. She was the perfect complement to Uncle Tom's jovial demeanor. It was so obvious that those two were meant for each other. Uncle Tom and Kathy never forgot a phone call on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I did not get to spend much time with the both of them because I had moved to Texas, but made sure to visit when I was up in PA.
Uncle Tom - you will be engrained in my memory forever. I will always remember my favorite Uncle.
Tommy was a great husband to Kathy, my sister. He was a good brother-in-law and a wonderful friend. His easy smile and gentle demeanor were a perfect match for his mischievous sense of humor. He loved a good joke and had a story for every occasion. I think I'll miss his stories the most.
Tommy was a gracious host at the seasonal holiday parties he and Kathy would throw. He was a real wiz in the kitchen and could smooze with the best. Tom would sometimes discuss his time in the Navy during the Vietnam War. It was a rare glimpse into a most formative time of his life. He was, rightly, proud of his military service and his active participation in veteran organizations.
It was my great privilege and honor to have been with Tommy at the time of his passing. He knew that he was loved and that he was appreciated for all he had done in his life.
Fair winds and following seas, Tommy. You are loved and will be missed.
Tom and I grew up in Southwest Philly together and became best friends. After we both went to service we did not see each other for a few years, but when we did contact each other it felt like we didn’t skip a beat. Tom had a wonderful smile and laugh which was very contagious. Kathy helped to make him the most responsible man that he was. God bless your time and I’m going to miss you!
I had the pleasure of spending a few Saturday afternoons with Thomas while his wife Kathy ran errands. He was truly a gentle giant. He enjoyed watching old movies like Gun Smoke and putting puzzles together.(I would do the edges pieces)
My prayers go out to his wife, family and friends. RIP my puzzle friend
I was fortunate to have spent time with Tom and his wife Kathy on several occasions. Tom was always warm, friendly and funny; my favorite qualities. The love Tom and Kathy shared was evident in their manner and interactions. I will always remember Tom fondly. My wife, Ruth, accompanied me on one of my visits and we are both saddened to hear of Tom's passing. Our deepest sympathies go out to Kathy, and to all of Tom's family and friends. ❤
