Obituary of Dorothy L. McThenia

Dorothy (“Dottie”) L. McThenia passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on December 10, 2020, joining her beloved husband, Thomas Cooney McThenia. Dottie was born in Elkton, Maryland on April 20, 1936 to the late J. William Liddell and Dorothy Bonner Liddell. Dorothy grew up on her family farm amidst close relationships with her extended family including Aunts, Jesse (Jay) Liddell Rogers and Clara Liddell Long (both departed) and spending summers on Cape Cod. Dottie was a member of West Nottingham Presbyterian Church and graduated from Rising Sun High School. At the University of Delaware, Dottie studied education, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree, and met her husband, Tom. Dottie had a beautiful signing voice as part of the University Chorale and in church. Dorothy was a long-time member of Media Presbyterian Church and her Women’s Circle. Dottie taught as a home economics teacher before starting a family and transitioning to loving mother and homemaker. Dottie enjoyed traveling and the beach, especially Hawaii and Long Beach Island, NJ. Dottie also loved gardening and beauty in nature as a longtime member of her garden club and supporter of the Tyler Arboretum. Dottie was preceded to death by her husband, Thomas Cooney McThenia; parents, aunts, Jesse and Clara, and brother, Rogers Bonner Liddell and brother-in-law, John McThenia. Dottie is survived by her daughter, Deborah L. McThenia, son, Thomas C. McThenia Jr. and his wife, Sheila, grandchildren Tommy, Andrew, Sam and Noah McThenia, sisters-in- law, Sharon C. Liddell and Melodee M. Suarez (Tony) and nephews, Scott McThenia and Chris Barrick and niece, Ericka McThenia. Visitation: Monday, December 14th from 9:00-10:00AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063. Funeral Service: Monday, December 14th at 10:00AM at the funeral home. Interment: Private at West Nottingham Presbyterian Cemetery.
