Obituary of Wilbert A. Esler

Wilbert Andrew Esler, “Bill” age 92, of Aston, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Season’s Palliative Care & Hospice, Wilmington Hospital, DE. Bill was born May 13, 1928 in London, Ontario, Canada, and was a graduate of Sir Adam Beck Collegiate High School, London, ON, Canada. Bill spent his 45 working years in the airline industry, with Trans Canada Airlines, Capital Airlines and United Airlines. He finished his career as an Air Freight Agent at Philadelphia Airport’s Cargo City, often bringing home interesting thank-you gifts from customers who shipped things like fresh flowers from South America and sourdough bread from San Francisco. Bill enjoyed watching sports on TV and enjoyed watching hockey at the local club in Aston, PA. He enjoyed golfing, and later in life enjoyed miniature golf with the grandkids. Many a family gatherings included rowdy games of Pictionary and Balderdash and Bill loved to play Scrabble as well. He loved to go to the racetrack, especially when the sulkies were running at Brandywine Raceway. At United, Bill played Hearts with his buddies on their lunch break. He enjoyed travel most of his life, vacationing in a variety of locations like Fenwick Island, Delaware, San Francisco, Chicago, Portland, Oregon, Boston, Lake Placid where he skated on Olympic ice, and a wonderful trip to Ireland to visit the family home. He often recited Irish poetry, especially Yeats’ “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” and he made up limericks which kept us laughing. Bill had a generous heart and gave to many charities. He had the utmost respect and admiration for veterans, especially those in his family.
