Obituary of Florence Dunlap

Florence Dunlap, age 94, of Wallingford, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, Syracuse, NY and Olean, NY, died Thursday, October 15, 2020. Florence was affectionately known as Flo, Flossie, Floss, Babe, FloJo and Hey Lady. Floss was born April 11, 1926. Flo was devoted to her home and family, she was a Chief Cook and Bottle Washer for her husband and raising their 4 kids. Floss was the Biggest Cheerleader for our Family! Florence Dunlap, our mom, can be best described by her big personality, smiling face and warm heart. To her family, she was a one of a kind mom, who was most proud of her children, and all of their accomplishments. She was always our support person, our go-to person, always there for us in our time of need. I guess you can say that is exactly what a mom should be; however our mom was so approachable...she made instant friends wherever she was. She had beautiful eyes and a laugh and a smile that radiated to those around her. She kept that twinkle in her eye, and a smile on her face as a stranger became a friend, in mere minutes. You thought you knew her all of your life. She actually looked like Mrs. Santa Clause! Mom loved life, and her perfect day was laughing with her friends and family. We’d laugh so hard, tears would flow down our faces. She always stayed up late at night watching Johnny Carson, Jimmy Kimmel, anything that would keep her up late, as she never seemed to want to go to bed. She appreciated all the simple things in life, a cuddly stuffed animal, ice cream, cake, a good cup of coffee…. All that being said, a little known fact about mom was that she was a big puzzle solver and became an avid gambler, betting a dollar a day on the outcome of “The Price is Right” showcase. Dan was her partner in crime. She won more often than not, which meant Dan never had enough money to buy his precious dog. Mom had her own FB page, and got so much attention because of her roommate, “Dan” posting life in a day with Floss….she became an instant hit and part of our AA extended family. Her birthdays became celebrations of her life, with our FB friends and family. Mom was our family patriarch, and we centered our world around her. After dad passed, mom lived with Dan and I for many years, until Thursday, when mom left us, to move on to a better place called Heaven. Sadly, for us, our bright light in this world became dimmer with moms passing, as she is a devastating loss to our entire family. Wife of her beloved husband, the late I.
