Condolences
When I first came to work at the Delaware County IU in 1973, it was Joan who befriended me right away and we found out we had a mutual love for tennis as well as a mutual love for the speech/hearing impaired population. She readily invited both my husband, John, and I to be part of her tennis group where we made many new friends. I will always remember her wit and ever-present smile as well as her pragmatic and loving way she approached her 'kids' at work. We lost touch after I left the IU but I remember her fondly.
I knew Joan from her volunteer work at the Tyler Arboretum Butterfly House. She used to take the shift after mine, so I'd be able to share with her the new things to look for. She was always so happy to be at Tyler and it was such a joy to share time with her.
I too remember Joan as a welcoming friend when I first started working at the Delaware County I.U. hearing department. She invited me along on bike outings, hiking/backpacking trips and cross country ski trips near and far. She visited me here in Idaho after I moved from PA when she would be passing through. I enjoyed her sense of humor and her love of nature and children. We will miss you Choan.
