Arnold Kress – March 19, 2018

 

Arnold Kress died March 19, 2018 at 5:00 in the morning, at home in Media, Pennsylvania. He was 83 years old. He will be remembered for his caring and charitable spirit, his earnest faith, and his intellectual curiosity. Arnold is survived by his wife, Lorraine Benedict Kress; his five sons and daughters-in-law, Peter (Audrey), David (Nora), Lucien (Julie), Kenneth (Jiyoung), and Timothy (Angel); and thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Arnold was born to John and Dorris Kress in Albany, New York in 1934. He attended Mont Pleasant High School (NY), Union College (NY), and Westminster Seminary (PA). He married Lorraine Benedict of St. Johnsbury, VT in 1958. After serving as pastor of Nashua Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania for several years, Arnold and Lorraine went to Japan as missionaries for more than twenty years, first with Orthodox Presbyterian Church Japan, and later with Christian Reformed Japan Mission. During a furlough in the mid-seventies, Arnold served as pastor of Hope Reformed Church in Clifton, NJ. After retiring from missionary work in 1993, Arnold served as pastor for Buskirk Reformed Church (NY) and as director of Peniel Bible Conference (NY). In later years, Arnold and Lorraine returned to Japan several times to participate in short-term mission and disaster recovery work.

 

Arnold moved to Granite Farms Estate in Media, PA with his wife in 2012 and had lived there since. He was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, PA.

 

A memorial service will be held at Lima Estates, 411 N. Middletown Rd., Media, PA 19063 on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2pm.
