Obituary of Shirley V. Hill

Shirley V. Hill, age 90, of Middletown Twp., Media, PA, formerly of Exton and Upper Darby, PA, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Shirley attended Upper Darby High School, class of 1953. She continued her education at Wharton Evening School, University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1976 specializing in a degree focusing on American Business Administrators.

Throughout her 35 years at University of Pennsylvania, she held various titles. Shirley began her career at University of Pennsylvania in 1954 as a Secretary and Administrative Assistant for the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. In 1969, she was promoted to Business Administrator for the Department of Pathology. Shirley continued her journey working at the University of Pennsylvania completing her final years as the Business Administrator for the Department of Chemistry in the School of Arts and Sciences, retiring in 1989.

Shirley served for five years as a volunteer for “Women Against Rape” in the 1980’s; she volunteered in historic Waynesborough. As a member of the SRA, Society of Research Administrators, Shirley traveled and served on many committees.

Shirley had been singing since her high-school days, sharing her beautiful voice with everyone around her. In her teenage years, She sang in the choir at Upper Darby Christian Science Church. A proud member of the Delaware County Choral Society, she shared her voice around the world, touring Romania, Spain, Poland, and Israel. In later years, Shirley sang with the Wayne Oratorio Society, up until 2023. She also spent time as a soloist at the Drexel Hill Christian Science Church.

Shirley cherished quiet moments spent reading. She also delighted in playing bingo, a pastime that brought her laughter and companionship. She devoted countless hours to genealogy, assembling an extensive archive of family records and stories. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
