Obituary of John W. Edler, Jr.
John W. Edler, Jr., age 74, of Malvern, PA, died Monday, November 17, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. John graduated from St. Thomas More College Preparatory School in Montville, CT. After high school, John went on to study Philosophy at Villanova. John worked as an executive salesman until he was able to continue his education in 1991 at the age of 39 at Widener School of Law. After graduation he did employment law for employees and wills and trusts.
In the Summer of 1986, he reconnected with his mother. In 1987, she was tragically killed in a train crash due to a Conrail Engineer doing drugs. John and 3 other people pushed the 1st ever random drug testing law passed for train engineers and airline pilots. Because of John’s devotion to having the law passed, he appeared on 60 Minutes and 20/20.
He faced every challenge with humor and a grace that brought vital levity to those around him, including the medical professionals who supported him. Every doctor who entered his room was greeted with one of his famous jokes. John was an advocate for an association throughout the country which was working on healthcare reform for all.
John began his days with the daily reading of the Inquirer; he was an avid reader. He was a devoted cat dad whose love for his feline companions was unmistakable.
Although John was no longer practicing law, he was teaching courses at DCCC to help those misplaced re-enter the workforce. He had a deep love of music and found joy in sharing it with everyone around him.
