Condolences
Mr Schmidt was a terrific teacher and a great soccer coach. I Have only fond memories of him at Merchantville Elementary School. My thoughts and prayers got out to his entire family.
Dear Andrea, I am sadden to hear of Dennis' passing. There are no words that I can express, only that I know what pain you must be going through. Jim must a needed a ski buddie up in heaven and Dennis heard the call. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May your loving memories get you through the rough road ahead. Sending special thoughts and hugs to you. maria
It is with sincere sadness that I write this condolence, for it was always a pleasure to see Dennis and to sit with him and talk. He was a true American who was: down to earth, dignified, humerous, educated, interesting; just an all around good man.
If we can all leave this earth and leave the legacy of being a "good" person, we have made a significant contribution to society and fullfilled God's intent.
I was fortunate to have known him and especially seeing him just one month ago.
Dennis will truely be missed at the family gatherings. May he rest in peace with the Lord.
May the Lord, family, and friends all help Andrea and her family through this time of sadness, and remember Dennis will always be with us.
Sempre Fi Dennis
Dr. James & Mrs. Marysue Fierro
Our first encounter with Andrea and Dennis was when Andrea showed up at our door in Frisco.... during a hurricane! You never know what a hurricane will blow in, but we were sure the winners! They became our great friends and our Live Oak Buddies!
There were dinners together several times a week, steamed oysters and clams on the deck, co-owner of a lawn mower, New Years Even celebrations, hours on the beach, travel to Spain, Derby Day parties and Dennis's most enjoyable event... Shots of tequila and howling at the moon! We promise to continue that tradition... so listen our dear friend.... we'll pour and toast the tequila and howl so you will know it is us! You were so loved and we miss you!
As one of our "8-Pack" of skiers here in New Hampshire, Dennis was a great motivator to get us all to the mountain precisely on time in the morning -- or in the case of rainy days, to suggest an accommodating breakfast location. He was very outgoing, and had such wonderful stories to share; those from his college days left us all holding our sides laughing! He and Andréa graciously hosted many a great dinner for our group, and we all enjoyed "movie nights" and Super-Bowl gatherings together. Once Co-Vid isolated us, we were able to still enjoy "aprés-no-ski" with our group via Zoom; we all could rely on lots of laughter and special memories.
As careful, experienced skiers, Dennis and Andréa had distinct specifications for ski tuning, and always recommended a specific sports shop who had longtime knowledge of Dennis & Andréa's sharpening preferences. Both on and off the slopes, Dennis was considerate and caring; during many long phone calls in the off-season, he always inquired of the health, well-being, and current activities of each member of our 8-Pack. His love for Andréa and their family was paramount, and he was so proud of each and every one of them.
Going forward, there will be an absent ski-boot bag in the base lodge... but there will also be our call-out of "This ski-run is for Dennis!"
Finally, with such sadness in losing Dennis, we will always be grateful for having known him, and we send our love and deepest condolences to Andréa, and to Kim and Whitney, and their families.
We met Dennis and Andrea through mutual friends in Frisco. They were kind enough to adopt us into their neighborhood get togethers. We were blessed to share New Year's Eve celebrations, cookouts on the beach, and even a trip to Grand Cayman. Dennis was always so kind and so social, he was one of those people who was easy to be around. Dennis also was a very "snappy" dresser. He was an islander, but still had some GQ genes. Dennis will be missed!
Sending love and long distance hugs,
Clark and Barbara Fortney
We are neighbors of Andrea and Dennis in Frisco. It was an inside joke that although we lived near each other in Jersey, we had to move to OBX to meet each other. As I remember it, Andrea and Dennis were still splitting their time between Frisco and Jersey when we first met. Later they relocated to Frisco and would spend their winters in New Hampshire. They were die hard skiers and I was in awe of their commitment to the sport. Dennis was always an interesting part of our neighborhood get togethers. He always made an impression on all of us. It was so sudden it will take us a while to get over it. God Bless, Dennis, Andrea and the family.
Dennis and my father were great (best) friends for most of their lives, having met while growing up in Barrington and caddying at Tavistock together. They shared many adventures, some of which I know about (trips up the NJ turnpike to Manhatten in my dads early Jaguar minus the floorboards), but many of which I'm sure were kept just between them. They remained life long friends and made it a point to remained connected and visit each other. When Dad passed a few years ago, calling Dennis to let him know was one of the toughest calls I've ever had to make. A couple of years later, I was able to meetup Dennis and go for a ride in the restored Jaguar that carried he and my father to all of their early adventures. I'll forever fondly remember the joy that afternoon ride brought to both of us with the top down and sharing stories of friendship between him and my father. You'll be missed deeply Uncle Denny...God Bless Dennis, Andrea, and the Family.
