Obituary of Ermelina C. Flynn

Mary Ermelina (nee Conner) Flynn, age 96, of Glen Mills, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, at Granite Farms Estates, Media, PA. Born on February 16, 1920, in Chester, PA., Ermelina had been a resident of Parkside, PA., for 47 years, and Glen Mills for 14 years. Ermelina was the daughter of the late James J. Conner and Mary (Fenix) Conner, and the wife of John "Jack" B. Flynn, Sr. (Scott Paper Engineer for 27 years) who predeceased her in 1999. Ermelina and Jack were married 57 years. Ermelina graduated from Notre Dame Academy of Moylan. She was one of only a few women to enter Drexel University's business program. She graduated from Drexel, in 1939, at the age of 19. Ermelina, who had a successful career with Bell Telephone and Philadelphia Electric Company, retired in 1978. Ermelina was a member of the Charitians at the Church of Our Lady Charity, Brookhaven and the Golden Agers of St. Thomas the Apostle, Chester Heights. A sports enthusiast, she spent many afternoons watching the Eagles and the Phillies. She was an avid reader who also excelled at needle point and flower arranging but her favorite pastime was always spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo (William) Boyer of Paoli, PA., and her son , John (Terri) B. Flynn, Jr. of Townsend, DE., both formerly of Parkside ,PA., 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 9:30AM until 10:15AM, prior to a Funeral Mass, at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, Chester Heights, at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to: Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation, 901 Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063, "to fund a nursing scholarship" in the name of Ermelina C. Flynn.
